Amleto Giovanni Lenzi

Amleto Giovanni (known as Jackie) arrived in the UK, aged 11, from Barga in Italy. The photograph shows him sitting on his bike after having won the Pringle Trophy for a 25 mile handicap race in 1924. The Scottish race was from either Glasgow or Paisley to Port Glasgow and Jackie placed 2nd the following year, having been beaten by half a wheel.




The name on the jersey reads 'Cicognani'

Jackie's club is thought to have been 'Renfrew Roads' (Renfrewshire Roads Cycling Club)...
