Amleto Giovanni (known as Jackie) arrived in the UK, aged 11, from Barga in Italy. The photograph shows him sitting on his bike after having won the Pringle Trophy for a 25 mile handicap race in 1924. The Scottish race was from either Glasgow or Paisley to Port Glasgow and Jackie placed 2nd the following year, having been beaten by half a wheel. |
The name on the jersey reads 'Cicognani'
Jackie's club is thought to have been 'Renfrew Roads' (Renfrewshire Roads Cycling Club)...
