The early 1950's were a boom time in the trade. The first few years of the decade saw cycling use continue to rise, and production was in full swing. This is perhaps best illustrated by considering that the majority of Flying Scots that turn up these days are from this era, some forty years later, and indicating just how many were made Rattrays continued to develop the marque, and by this time had established their bicycles as the machine of choice in Scotland, whether for touring or race. Before the middle of the decade however sales in general of the post-war boom period peaked and began to decline.
