Production of lightweight frames at Rattray's, first began in the late 1920s on an ad-hoc basis for members of the Douglas C.C. in Glasgow. True production did not however begin, apparent;ly until 1935 when "The Scot" first appeared in their catalogue. Many frames were built for sale to the general public in the pre-war years, Rattray's using the burgeoning club scene, particularly in the West of Scotland to establish themselves as one of Scotland's foremost producers of handbuilt frames. Very few pre-war machines remain however, and even less remain "as sold" . To date, no frames have appeared for theyears (1941-1945) i.e during WWII, when it is thought that production ceased. |
